One cannot deny that the history of choral music is firmly rooted in music written to praise God. Our first concert of the season is a survey of great sacred choral music through the ages. The concert title comes from Colossians 3:16 which says: "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly...as you sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your heart to God."
The holiday season is not complete without festivity, brass instruments, and the sound of a wonderful choir! Our Christmas concert features choral music accompanied by brass, percussion and organ as we celebrate the season in a special way.
From the beginning Griffin Choral Arts has performed music in many languages. For our 2009 Masterworks concert we will feature music from non-Eurpoean traditions. Join us as we explore the diversity of multicultural music, its colors, rhythms, and unique stylings.
The concert title is taken from a Shakespearean text used by Thomas Morely in his madrigal "It was a lover and his lass." Renaissance madrigals are full of springtime themes and texts dealing with the many aspects of love. We conclude our season with music celebrating romance and the end of the cold winter. Our special guests, the Vega String Quartet, will join GCA for this final concert of the season.
